Council Statement of Solidarity with Pope Benedict

We, the Knights of Columbus would like to offer our support to the Catholic Church on the recent happenings regarding the Papacy.  We are going through times which are very rare.  Pope Benedict has recently stepped down as Supreme Pontiff and for the first time in 598 years we will have two living men who have been or are Pope.  The Knights of Columbus in Humboldt would like to take this time to thank Pope Benedict XVI for his guiding principles, his unwavering faith and his loving approach to the Church.  We are eternally grateful for all that he has done as Pope and we wish him many more years, as he enters into a life of solitude and prayer.

His devotion to Our Lord is apparent in all that he has done.  Through his writing, through his attention to the proper implementation of Vatican Council II beginning with the liturgy, and how he views each and every one of us as Catholics has defined his pontificate.  The Knights of Columbus in Humboldt join the rest of the Church in thanking him for focusing on the important aspects of our Catholic life.

We should not be shocked and saddened by the decision that His Holiness made, but rather we should understand that the Church continues on.  The Church has forseen this and the Church has a protocol in place to handle this very situation.  We should not despair, we should open our hearts to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and we will know that the next man to ascend to the Papacy is worthy.

Vivat Jesus!
