I'm The Guy

This week it is important that we, the members of Council 8592 reach out.  We are reaching out to each member who is not active.  We are asking that you give us another try.  The reasons are varied and they are no doubt very important reasons, but we are hoping that you see our growth and our vision as one in which you would like to be involved with again.  It is our heartfelt desire and our wish that you give us one more try.  We meet every second Monday and we are looking forward to seeing you at every meeting.  There is a poem which may or may not sum up some of the feelings, it reads:

I’m the guy who asked to join your organization.  I’m the guy who paid his dues to join.  I’m the guy who stood up in front of you and promised to be faithful and loyal.  I’m the guy who came to the meetings and no one paid attention to.  I tried several times to be friends, but they all had their own buddies to talk to and sit next to.  I sat down several times, but no one paid attention to me.  I hoped very much that someone would have asked me to take part in a fund raising project or something, but no one saw my efforts when I volunteered.  I missed a few meetings after joining because I was sick and couldn’t be there.  No one asked me at the next meeting where I had been.  I guess it didn’t matter very much to others whether I was there or not.  The next meeting I decided to stay home and watch TV.  The following meeting, I attended, but no one asked where I was for the last meeting.  You might say I’m a good guy or a “good family man” who holds a responsible job and loves his community and country.  You know who else I am?  THE GUY WHO NEVER CAME BACK.  It amuses me how the heads of organizations discuss WHY the organization is losing members.  It amuses me to think that they spend so much time looking for NEW members when I was there all the time.  All they needed to do was make me feel needed.  Make me feel wanted.  And make me feel WELCOME!

To any brother Knights who are out there, please consider coming back.  We need you.  We want you.  And you are always WELCOME!  Vivat Jesus!

Brother and Sir Knights,

A friendly reminder from your Grand Knight and Officers that this Sunday at the 9am Mass is Knights' Sunday.  We would like to have as many members in attendance as we can.  This is a great opportunity for us to be a public witness to our Catholic church and to show unity with the Catholic Church.

If you are 3rd degree or lower, please wear your shirt and khaki colored slacks.  If you are 4th Degree (and have indicated as such), please wear Regalia (social baldric, not color corps).  Officers, we will have your jewels to wear.

We will meet in the narthex before Mass, say no later than 8:45am, so that we might get the Procession lined up properly.  Thank you in advance for all that you do to support the Knights.

If you indicated a extraordinary ministry, please plan on doing that, if you did not, your worship will be your own, in union with the whole parish and the whole Catholic Church.

Vivat Jesus!

Council Statement of Solidarity with Pope Benedict

We, the Knights of Columbus would like to offer our support to the Catholic Church on the recent happenings regarding the Papacy.  We are going through times which are very rare.  Pope Benedict has recently stepped down as Supreme Pontiff and for the first time in 598 years we will have two living men who have been or are Pope.  The Knights of Columbus in Humboldt would like to take this time to thank Pope Benedict XVI for his guiding principles, his unwavering faith and his loving approach to the Church.  We are eternally grateful for all that he has done as Pope and we wish him many more years, as he enters into a life of solitude and prayer.

His devotion to Our Lord is apparent in all that he has done.  Through his writing, through his attention to the proper implementation of Vatican Council II beginning with the liturgy, and how he views each and every one of us as Catholics has defined his pontificate.  The Knights of Columbus in Humboldt join the rest of the Church in thanking him for focusing on the important aspects of our Catholic life.

We should not be shocked and saddened by the decision that His Holiness made, but rather we should understand that the Church continues on.  The Church has forseen this and the Church has a protocol in place to handle this very situation.  We should not despair, we should open our hearts to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and we will know that the next man to ascend to the Papacy is worthy.
Please continue to check our website www.humboldtkofc.org .

Reminder

Hello All,

I am posting a quick reminder that module #2 for the Basic Catechist Course is this Sunday evening @ 7pm.  It will be at St. Mary's in Humboldt, Iowa.

If you are able, we'd love to see you there.  If not, please pray for those who are coming to the course.  They are on a journey which should deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith.

Thank you.

It's NOT OK to Empty Holy Water Fonts During Lent

This is a total rip-off and to be honest, I don't care.  It is important to understand that this isn't ok to do in the parish.

In recent years, some parishes have taken the holy water out of the holy water fonts during Lent. They have even filled them with sand in some cases.
The idea, they say, is to convey the thought that Lent is a time of spiritual dryness--a "desert" experience--that precedes Easter, in which we refrain from using the sacramental of holy water.
Despite its popularity in some places, this practice is not permitted.
It has been the Church's practice to empty the holy water fonts during Triduum, but for a different reason. It is not permitted to have them empty through the whole season of Lent.
The Congregation for Divine Worship has stated:
This Dicastery is able to respond that the removing of Holy Water from the fonts during the season of Lent is not permitted, in particular, for two reasons:
1. The liturgical legislation in force does not foresee this innovation, which in addition to being "praeter legem" [i.e., "apart from the law"] is contrary to a balanced understanding of the season of Lent, which though truly being a season of penance, is also a season rich in the symbolism of water and baptism, constantly evoked in liturgical texts.
2. The encouragement of the Church that the faithful avail themselves frequently of the sacraments is to be understood to apply also to the season of Lent. The "fast" and "abstinence" which the faithful embrace in this season does not extend to abstaining from the sacraments or sacramentals of the Church.
The practice of the Church has been to empty the Holy Water fonts on the days of the Sacred Triduum in preparation of the blessing of the water at the Easter Vigil, and it corresponds to those days on which the Eucharist is not celebrated (i.e., Good Friday and Holy Saturday) [3/14/03: Prot. N. 569/00/L].
